Rocky Mountain Wolf Project 2016 - 2020
The Rocky Mountain Wolf Project is dedicated to enhancing public understanding of gray wolf behavior, ecology, and the possibilities for re-establishing the species in Colorado. In partnership with this mission, Grizzly Creek Films produced a series of short films covering the ecological impact of gray wolves. Through vivid storytelling and stunning visuals, Grizzly Creek Films brings the narrative of these majestic creatures to life, fostering a deeper appreciation and support for their presence in the snow-capped peaks, rim rock canyons, and primeval forests of western Colorado.
In 2020, Colorado voters passed Proposition 114, a landmark decision that mandated the reintroduction of gray wolves to the state's western regions by the end of 2023. This initiative, driven by a broad coalition of environmental groups, scientists, and public supporters, marked a significant step toward restoring the ecological balance of Colorado's wilderness areas. The approval of Proposition 114 reflected a growing recognition of the importance of predators in natural habitats and demonstrated public commitment to conservation efforts and biodiversity enhancement in Colorado.
After the successful reintroduction of gray wolves into the greater Yellowstone ecosystem, there's just one missing link in the Rocky Mountains— one state whose public lands are still haunted by the missing howl: Colorado.

Short Film
CANIS LUPUS COLORADO
Ghosts are stirring in Colorado’s high country. These are the guardians of a delicate balance. They haunt the trees, the water, the animals – the very fabric of the land itself. Gray wolves shaped this place for eons only to disappear nearly overnight. Canis Lupus Colorado is the story of the past, present, and future of Colorado’s now extinct native wolf population. Now we’re at a tipping point: the emerging west, the future of our public wildlands, and the health of vast ecosystems are all at stake. And the choice is up to us.

MEET THE REAL WOLF
What happens when fairy tales and reality collide? Throughout history, myths about the “big bad wolf” have generated fear and concern that creeps out of our storybooks and into the real world. By the 1950s, wolves were pushed to the brink of extinction in the lower forty-eight and more was lost than just the wolf. Meet The Real Wolf introduces a new chapter where the apex predator becomes the protagonist, changing the narrative of the ecosystems they are rebuilding. We learn what happens when the wolf is no longer antagonized, but instead realized as the missing link, and the denouement to our story.
